The Bern Neubrück municipal WWTP commenced operations in 1967. In 1996 the company was converted into the corporation "ara region bern ag" or now known as arabern. We reliably clean the wastewater of the households, commerce and industries located in our shareholder communities, and the sewage sludge is utilized in industry. We provide this service to the residents and businesses of ten shareholder communities as well as three other surrounding communities which are connected. We handle a sewage load of approximately 410'000 population equivalent (PE). arabern is designed for a sewage load of 500'000 PE. The stock capital amounts to CHF 60 million and ist owned by the shareholder communities. They are: Allmendingen, Bern, Bremgarten, Frauenkappelen, Kehrsatz, Kirchlindach, Köniz, Meikirch, Muri and Wald.
In addition, we treat and recycle sludge for the WWTP Wohlen and the sludge of other plants. The development, maintenance and repair of sewer systems is carried out by each shareholder community.

In accordance with the provisions of the law, these bodies are responsible for the attainment of the corporate purpose. The operating business i.e., the management and execution of the business is transferred to the management.
